Crown Commercial Service (CCS)

Crown Commercial Service (CCS) is the UK public procurement service that was replaced by Government Commercial Agency (GCA) on 1 April 2026.

What did the Crown Commercial Service do?

Crown Commercial Service was a Trading Fund and Executive Agency of the Cabinet Office. Before it was replaced by GCA in 2026, CCS was responsible for:

  • managing the procurement of common goods and services
  • increasing savings for the taxpayer by centralising buying requirements

CCS secured commercial benefits of £4.6 billion in the 2024/25 financial year.

In April 2026, CCS became GCA

On 1 April 2026, CCS was combined with several Cabinet Office Central Commercial Teams to form Government Commercial Agency (GCA), an enhanced executive agency.

The change to GCA is designed to provide both buyers and suppliers with greater value and efficiency. Learn more about the change to GCA.

What has happened to CCS frameworks and other agreements?

If you are a buyer or a supplier, you might be wondering what the change means for CCS frameworks and other agreements.

For the time being, there will be no change to your existing relationship with CCS. This means:

  • points of contact stay the same
  • services you use stay the same
  • the legality of any CCS framework or agreement will not change
  • existing contracts and call-offs remain valid
