We want to make applying for a role at Government Commercial Agency (GCA) as straightforward and supportive as possible. Our recruitment process is fair and transparent, designed to give everyone the best opportunity to show us what they can do.

Typically our process will follow these 4 steps:

  1. Writing your application
  2. Review and shortlisting
  3. Interview and assessment
  4. Outcome

1. Writing your application

You’ve found a role that interests you. Now it’s time to apply. You’ll be asked to provide:

  • some basic personal information
  • a CV or work history
  • a personal statement

We want to understand how your skills and experience meet the essential criteria for the role. Take your time with your personal statement. It is your opportunity to show us why you’re the right person for the job.

2. Review and shortlisting

Our assessment panel will review your personal statement and work history against the criteria set out in the job description. We’ll invite the candidates who best meet the criteria to continue in the process.

If you’ve applied under the Disability Confident Scheme and meet the minimum criteria, you’ll be guaranteed an interview.

We’ll be in touch about the outcome of your application as soon as possible.

3. Interview and assessment

The interview and assessment stage helps us understand more about your skills, experience and potential. Depending on the role, this may include:

  • online tests to assess your aptitude and ability

  • a panel interview (usually by video call)

  • a presentation to support the interview

For roles that are band 6 and above, your leadership skills will be assessed through psychometric testing. We will let you know the type of testing on the job advert.

In your interview, we’ll assess you against the Civil Service success profiles set out in the job description.
